Dragon Boat Festival Stories and Traditions

There is something about a good story that makes people perk up and listen. Living in Taiwan, we certainly hear a great many stories, fables and proverbs. The Dragon Boat Festival (端午節; duanwujie) is held on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar (which usually falls in June). The position of the sun at the time of the Summer Solstice represents strong masculine energy. This is why in the Chinese zodiac, the dragon is often favorably associated with wealth, power and high positions within business or government.
