Japanese Folklore : The Amabie – A Protector Against Illness

Throughout the ages, fishermen all over the world have reported seeing strange creatures from the sea. Their terrifying tales of giant sea monsters and serpents have become global legends. However, in Asia just off the coast of Japan lived a gentle sea creature called amabie (ah-mah-bee-ey).
