Over the weekend, we visited Pallavi Saxena’s “Bloom Beyond Borders” exhibition at the Red Room. Pallavi was quite charming as she explained the reasons for selecting her exhibition’s title. “Floral patterns are fashionable designs associated with new products from women in leading businesses in India and with limited floral editions across different mediums.” The idea for her exhibition focuses on the concept of cross-cultural sharing across borders, literally and through art, as seen in her floral exhibition and areas in-between.
Looking at the ‘in-between’ areas’ resulted in a collaboration with Pallavi and Prachi a talented designer, who also shares a similar love of flowers and objects. Prachi’s experience, advice and wisdom resulted in the creation of tasteful, high-end fashionable gift items for this Floral Collection. Each piece from this limited edition is made from Indian cotton and sourced from women experienced in business, in India.
The art pieces, in this exhibition represent a journey from India to Taiwan, including 180 cardboard boxes. Once settled, Pallavi began an art experiment. She began recycling pieces from those cardboard boxes by carefully sticking them on canvas. One image in particular caught our attention when pointed out by Pallavi, was that some of the cardboard images resembled the shape of a real heart among a full canvas of flowers : “I was tearing the cardboard boxes to create these hearts slowly, slowly. As this collection grew, I added fabric from the local markets in Taipei.This exhibition is a culmination of a two year effort to get my art on canvas and objects…“.
